Celebrations

Scott and I celebrated two years of marriage on Sunday so we could have more time with it. We left Micah at a friend's house and another friend at church offered for us to use their canoe! We gladly accepted the offer. So, after church, we handed the baby off, got pizza, ate it in the blissful quiet of our home, then headed out again to get the canoe.

It was a beautiful day, warm, but not too hot, and a bit overcast. We launched out on the Chena River and paddled up to Pioneer Park, about a two hour ride. We saw lots of birds, and of course there were a lot of other people out on the river. After we'd returned the canoe, we went to the Alaskan Salmon Bake, a very Fairbanks thing to do that we have not yet done. (Well...of course...NOW we've done it because I'm writing in the past tense, so, yeah. Anyway.) The food was delicious, and we sat among tall birch trees, swarms of mosquitoes, and swarms of French people. We decided they must be from Canada since a lot of them had hockey shirts on. (The people, not the mosquitoes.) Ah, Alaska.

All in all, it was such a wonderful day, and of course it was amazing to have a break from the little one.
